This past wet weekend in Melbourne, Icom (Australia) was invited to attend the annual EMDRC (Eastern & Mountain District Amateur Radio Club) 2018 Hamfest.
The event was held at the Great Ryrie Primary School in Heathmont with a total of 265 people attending the event and 53 tables of radio equipment and accessories on sale for eager amateurs looking for a bargain. There were also over 30 volunteers assisting to make this a great day for all.
Our Icom staff who attended the event said that there were a lot of great questions from the public on the IC-7610. There was feedback from a lot of consumers that they had made a great purchase with the IC-7300. Overall people were interested in sharing stories of their Icom products some had products over 30 years old which were still running well today. Thank you again for the great questions and answers.
Icom (Australia) was invited by our dealer Central Comms to attend their Annual TJM 4x4 & Camping Expo in Alice Springs (N.T) which has been running for 8 years. The event ran over Saturday the 10 th and Sunday the 11th of March. There was some rain on the Saturday but the Sunday cleared up and was a great day for all who attended.
With over 16 exhibitors on site for the two day event ranging from 4WD accessories to camping. We had a great day showing our UHF-CB range, IC-A25NE our latest air band handheld product and some of our new land mobile.
It was an opportunity to answer all those questions that consumers have but never get to ask and show case the durability of our product to customers. We had great feedback on the day with one customer telling us that they had “an Icom radio that is 10 years old plus and still going strong. Great product.” While others told us that they had been using the Icom radio on their cattle stations for years.
We hope it was a great day for Central Comms and appreciate the invite.
Moorabbin & District Radio Club Presentation March 2018 (9/03/18)
Icom (Australia) was invited to attend the monthly meeting at the Moorabbin & District Radio Club (MDRC) last Friday evening. We were asked to present a talk on the history of Icom, our new products and demonstrate the IC-7610.
The event was held at the club rooms were members and guests attended the presentation. One of our engineers gave the group a presentation on the history of Icom and the differences between the IC-7600 and IC-7610. A lot of questions and feedback was given on a range of our Icom products from D-Star to the IC-7300 and other areas of interest.
We were lucky enough to be able to plug the IC-7610 into the clubs antenna and let some of the members have a turn with the unit. Everybody was very impressed with its performance.
We would like to thank the Moorabbin & District Radio Club for the opportunity to present to the club and the great evening we had with their members.

Queanbeyan 4WD Spectacular February 2018 (16/02/18)
The Queanbeyan 4WD Spectacular was held over the 3rd and 4th of February 2018. The event is focused on encouraging responsible and recreational use of four wheel drive vehicles in Australia. With over 17,000 square meters of 4WD demonstrations, test tracks, 4WD and camping products and children’s activities. Icom (Australia) attended the event to support Watts Communications to offer technical tips and product suggestions to customers.
From all reports the event was a success for Watts Communications with a lot of customers visiting their stand. We had a lot of people come past to tell us how much they love their UHF CB and share their experiences. A number of customers spoke about the benefits of our products over others in the market place. They were won over by the quality and features that our UHF CB products offered.
From our feedback of the event it was a great day and we are sure they exceeded the 12,000 visitor count from the last 2016 event.
Thank you Watts Communication and we look forward to the next Queanbeyan 4WD Spectacular.
