Nissan to Utilise New Communications System (23/2/15)
Nissan Motorsport will enter the 2015 V8 Supercars season armed with radio communication technology never seen before in the Championship.
Having renewed its communications partnership deal, Nissan Motorsport will use Icom’s new IP Advanced Radio System, becoming the first V8 Supercars team to use a wireless intercom system.
The Icom IP100H units offer secure radio communication amongst the crew and to the cars, and importantly, the units allow each user to talk and receive simultaneously.
The system is completely wireless, allowing team members to move around the garage or walk onto pit lane without compromising any of its functionality.
According to Nissan Motorsport racing director Scott Sinclair, the Icom system’s adaptability has opened up a completely new way of communication within the garage.
“V8 Supercars has introduced a number of changes to the way the radio systems work for 2015 and, together with Icom, we’ve been able to implement an exciting new system to enhance our communication to the cars and amongst the crew,” Sinclair said.
“People often don’t realise how important the communication is between the team within the garage – when the cars will be pitting, which tyres to put on, how much fuel to put in – these are all conversations that take place between the crew, via radio, during the race.
“We will be the first team to utilise the brand new IP Advanced Radio System. The system uses a wireless IP network rather than a traditional radio network to link all the crew members and cars to create a completely secure radio network.
“Much like a traditional intercom system, the IP100H units allow each user to talk and receive simultaneously, and it’s completely wireless so we can all move around the garage or go out to the pit wall without losing any functionality.”
The 2015 season marks the third year of Nissan’s involvement in V8 Supercars competition. Icom has been a communication partner of Nissan Motorsport from the outset, and was also a partner of the team in its former guise as Kelly Racing.
Icom will continue to have a visible presence on the four Nissan Motorsport entries on the front guard and the wing mirrors.
Icom Australia Managing Director Masahiko Komoda was pleased to offer a product that assists the race team contest the V8 Supercars Championship.
“Icom Australia is proud to continue our partnership of Nissan Motorsport and is excited to introduce a revolutionary radio communications system in 2015,” Komoda said.
“One of the challenges of racing in V8 Supercars is that the conditions and requirements are constantly changing by the second. The communications system used is imperative to a successful racing strategy at Nissan Motorsport.”
The four Nissan Motorsport entries will be on-track for the first time at next week’s Clipsal 500.
Icom Australia will be exhibiting at the 2014 Comms Connect show, which will be held from the 1st- 2nd October, at the Melbourne Convention Centre.
